The Paint Booth

(Booth is closed as of 1-1-08)

Randy's 1971 Chevy Impala

  • PPG Grey Primer
  • PPG Slate Blue Pearl Basecoat
  • PPG Clearcoat

Tear down and sanding was done with a nice 60 grit 3M sand paper.  The car was half spray painted with a spray can white primer over the basecoat from previous owner.

Trim pieces were removed and the rest of the car was masked off.  Primer was flash coated with 2 coats (by owner request) one mist coat and on medium coat.

The Base coat was flashed with 2 mist coats and one medium coat.

The clear coat was also flashed with 2 mist and one medium coat.  Once cured, we hit the car with a medium/heavy Cutter compound, followed by a nice wash using Mothers carwash, those were followed by a stage 1 wax and stage 2 polish.

Sean's 1966 Shelby Cobra

  • Nason Grey Primer (per owner request)
  • PPG 1978 Chrysler Sterling Silver Basecoat
  • PPG 2007 Viper Red (Stripes)
  • PPG Clearcoat

We picked up and transported the '66 cobra from west Wichita to Newton.  The car was a rolling chassie with engine and transmission mounted.  Upon the customers request we started with a block sand to remove the previous primer that was applied to the car.

Body work was complete and sanded down prior to the first coat of primer that was applied.  2 mist coats and one medium coast of primer was applied, followed by a block sand.

A PPG basecoat was applied with 2 coats, one mist and one medium.  Cure time of 24 hours was reached prior to laying out the Cobra stripes by owners request and location.

Stripes were laid out 1.5" thick and 1/2" a part and painted with a 2007 Viper red.

A Nason clear coat was shot after the stripes were dried and had been block sanded then wet sanded down to blend in.  a Nason Clear coat was shot in 3 passes, 2 mist 1 medium pass.  Post painting procedures were followed with a cutter, wash, wax and polish.
